RPG IV Programming

Course objectives

Participants will get a comprehensive exposure to the features and functions of RPG IV programming language needed for application development.

WebFacing and new tools for development of iSeries applications

 

Topic covered:            Development and application programming
Duration:                     3 days
Delivery type:              Classroom lectures and hands-on practice

Course objectives

The course participants will be familiarised with concepts behind the WebFacing tool that can be used to modernise iSeries applications, as well as with other tools integrated into IBM WebSphere Development Studio for iSeries. WebFacing enables conversion of standard iSeries applications and their running in Web environment. Changes to applications written in RPG-u or COBOL, themselves, are not required. The course also includes a fair amount of hands-on programming practice.

Audience

Developers and application designers who wish to modernise their 5250 applications and make them Web-compatible, as well as all those who wish to use the new tools for iSeries application development.

Course overview

  • using WebFacing tools for iSeries applications conversion,
  • defining »Web Settings« attributes of converted applications,
  • transferring converted applications to WebSphere Application Server,
  • use of new functions for iSeries application development provided in the WebSphere Studio Application Developer. These include Remote Server Explorer and iSeries Project.         

Prerequisites:

Familiarity with iSeries systems and standard tools for application development.
